Pune- Javed Attar- Special Report : There is a good news for class 12th students. Even if 12th class students have taken Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, you can become a doctor. Biology will no longer be mandatory for medical admission. The condition in this regard has been changed. New guidelines have been issued by the National Medical Commission in this regard. This decision will be implemented from 2024. But non-Biology students must pass Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject in 12th.
The Medical Commission of India (MCI) has amended the 1997 rules on postgraduate medical penalties. According to that rule, students who have passed 12th Biology could appear for the medical entrance examination.
According to the new rules of MCI, non-biology students can go abroad for medical courses.
Earlier it was necessary to have Biology in class 11th and 12th. Earlier, according to the rules of Graduate Medical Education, 1997, for admission to MBBS, BDS, it was necessary to have two years of Biology subject in class XI and XII. This course had to be completed from regular college. The Delhi High Court struck down this rule in 2018. The new rule has given another chance to Group A students who want to pursue a medical degree. MCI meeting was held in this regard on 14 June 2023. This decision was taken in this.
The Union Education Ministry has brought together all the boards of the country for the NEET exam. CBSE and CISCE are two boards at the national level. Then every state has a board. There are total 60 such boards. The academic standards and syllabus of each board are different.
Apart from this, there is also a difference in exam results and evaluation. Due to this, the Union Education Ministry has taken the initiative to bring uniformity in all these. Students have to appear for NEET for medical admission and JEE Main for engineering admission. Therefore it varies from board to board. The Central Education Board has taken the stance that there should not be a decline.
