Justice sought over Old Kadapa land dispute

Andhra Pradesh: Dalit residents of Old Kadapa, supported by DGHPS and RCP activists, submitted petitions to district officials and vowed to intensify their agitation, including relay hunger strikes, until long-pending land issues are resolved.

Memorandum submitted

On Thursday, representatives of the Dalit Tribal Rights Struggle Association and victims of the land dispute visited the residence of the the local MLA, TDP District President and office of the Superintendent of Police. Led by Venkateshu, Madagalam Prasad, Honorary Presidents of the Association, they submitted formal grievances seeking immediate resolution to the land issues plaguing Dalits of Old Kadapa.

Two-year-long struggle for land ownership

Activists from the Rayalaseema Communist Party (RCP) and Dalit Girijana Hakkula Porata Samiti (DGHPS) emphasized that despite two years of sustained protests, sit-ins, and petitions, authorities have remained indifferent. “The inaction of officials is a grave injustice to the Dalit families who have rightful claims over these lands,” the leaders stated.

Relay hunger strike to begin from July 28

Frustrated by the continued apathy, the leaders announced that they would begin a relay hunger strike at the District Collector’s office starting Monday, July 28. “This protest will not stop until the land is rightfully returned to the Dalits of Old Kadapa,” they declared.

Call for support from public representatives

The petitioners urged public representatives to intervene and stand by the marginalized community. “This is not just a legal issue but a social justice issue. Political leaders must ensure the rights of Dalits are protected,” said Venkateshu.

Voices of protest growing stronger

The program saw participation from community members and activists including Obulesu, Diwakar, Veera Subbaiah, Venkata Subbaiah, Chinna Subbaiah, and Pedda Obulesu, who affirmed their commitment to the cause and said they would continue the agitation until justice is served.
