Call for long-term anti-caste movements inspired by Ambedkar
By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Andhra Pradesh: At the conclusion of a statewide social awareness cultural yatra in Vijayawada, V Srinivasa Rao, Secretary of Phule Ambedkar Vigyan Kendra Charitable Trust (PAVKC), emphasized the need for sustained anti-caste struggles rooted in Ambedkarite ideology to build an egalitarian society.
Ambedkar’s legacy must inspire today’s movements
Speaking at the MBVK premises in Vijayawada on Sunday, V Srinivasa Rao said the fight against caste must continue in the spirit of Dr. B R Ambedkar and Mahatma Phule. He highlighted that while caste discrimination originated centuries ago, efforts to resist it have also been continuous, including major movements and personal sacrifices.
Rao praised Ambedkar’s use of the Constitution as a tool to battle social and economic inequalities and said that even today, caste discrimination persists in new forms. Only when various anti-caste movements unite, he said, can meaningful change be achieved.
The play as a medium of social awakening
The cultural event featured the play Kalaaroopam Sangam Sharanam Gachchami, performed by Abhyudaya Art Academy, portraying Ambedkar’s life. Rao hoped it would energize public consciousness and inspire collective resistance against caste-based oppression.
He called on organizers to ensure the play reaches more villages and towns across Andhra Pradesh to broaden its social impact.

Statewide campaign by KVPS and PAVKC
KVPS State General Secretary Andhra Malyadri explained that the play was staged as part of a cultural awareness yatra initiated in April to mark Ambedkar’s 134th birth anniversary. The Vijayawada event marked the final stop in this extensive campaign across multiple towns and villages.
Art as tribute to Ambedkar
A striking moment at the event came when a young artist, Annam Mahita, presented a unique portrait of Ambedkar made entirely from pencil leads. V Srinivasa Rao and others congratulated her, and Mahita expressed her intent to gift the artwork to Ambedkar’s grandson.
The event witnessed participation from a wide array of dignitaries and supporters, including NTR District SSA PD G Maheswara Rao, B R Ambedkar Gurukul Joint Secretary Sanjeeva Rao, GSR Polavarapu Kala Samiti President Golla Narayana Rao, IAS Academy Director Mannam Raja Rao, Ambedkar Mission President Ganji Rama Rao, retired DE Varaprasad, RTC DE Radhakrishna, and several KVPS state leaders.
All speakers and participants echoed the central theme: only with united, ongoing efforts can caste discrimination be dismantled and true equality established.
