Women’s complaints spur Tiruvuru MLA to act against belt shops

Tiruvuru – Andhra Pradesh: Tiruvuru MLA Kolikapudi Srinivasa Rao pledges to shut illegal belt shops following complaints from women. While there are officially four licensed liquor shops in Tiruvuru town, reports suggest that 35 to 40 liquor shops are operating illegally. Furthermore, around 140 unauthorized belt shops are reportedly functioning across the four mandals of the Tiruvuru constituency, creating significant social concerns.
Residents’ complaints spark action
MLA Kolikapudi Srinivasa Rao addressed the growing discontent among residents, especially women, over the proliferation of liquor outlets. He said, “Many women have approached me with complaints about liquor shop located in residential areas, causing significant disturbances to their daily lives.”

Call to cancel licenses of legal shops
The MLA emphasized the need for stricter regulations, arguing that if unauthorized belt shops cannot be eliminated, the licenses of the four authorized liquor shops in the town should be revoked.
In a decisive move, Kolikapudi Srinivasa Rao promised swift action to address the issue. “It is my responsibility to personally ensure that Tiruvuru becomes alcohol-free within 48 hours,” he assured, committing to direct intervention against illegal belt shop operations.
