RCP demands urgent road and drainage works in RK Nagar

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: Rayalaseema Communist Party (RCP) State Secretary Ravi Shankar Reddy on Wednesday criticized successive governments for neglecting RK Nagar’s basic infrastructure needs, demanding immediate construction of roads and drainage canals in the flood-affected area. He warned that if the long-standing civic issues are not resolved soon, the residents will be forced to take to the streets in protest.

RCP leader slams 25 years of neglect

During a visit to RK Nagar with a team of RCP representatives, Ravi Shankar Reddy alleged that no ruling government in the past 25 years has shown genuine interest in developing the area. He remarked that the locality, which was established through years of struggle, continues to face “step-motherly treatment” from authorities.

He further criticized political leaders for ignoring the plight of residents despite repeatedly seeking their votes. “If only those who were elected had a plan to repay their debt to the people, this situation wouldn’t exist,” he said, demanding immediate infrastructure development.

Residents struggle amid flooded streets

Highlighting the dire conditions, the RCP leader said that residents are unable to walk on the waterlogged streets, which have turned into puddles after every rainfall. “Those who wish to walk in RK Nagar must train in a circus and learn swimming—only then can they move around,” he said sarcastically, describing how even homes are flooded during rains.

He added that the elderly, women, and children suffer the most, as the lack of proper roads and drainage makes movement nearly impossible. “Despite repeated complaints to officials, no action has been taken,” he said.

Basic needs still unmet

Ravi Shankar Reddy expressed frustration that even the most essential needs—roads, drainage, and drinking water—remain unfulfilled in a locality once represented by former Mayor Suresh Babu. “The residents are being used only to fill the corporation’s treasury through taxes, while their living conditions deteriorate,” he said.

Warning of protests if neglect continues

The RCP State Secretary warned that if authorities continue to ignore the people’s grievances, large-scale protests would be organized. He said that petitions will soon be submitted to district officials demanding immediate action.

Members of the RCP city unit, including Madagalam Prasad, Chapala Subbarayudu, Lakshmi Devi, Vijay Kumar, and Chotapir, accompanied him during the visit.
