Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: The Women’s Association (Aidwa) and CITU organised a protest at the Balaji Gas Office in Proddatur, alleging that the agency has been collecting an additional Rs 50–Rs 100 per LPG cylinder from consumers. The leaders urged officials to intervene and ensure fair pricing.
Concerns over additional cylinder charges
Aidwa District Secretary S Mumtaz Begum, CITU Secretary Vijay Kumar, and President K Salman said consumers were being burdened with extra charges on an essential commodity once every two months. They said that such practices were affecting low-income families and must be stopped immediately.
Call to relocate gas godown
Protesters also demanded that the Balaji Gas godown, currently situated within a residential neighbourhood, be shifted outside the village to avoid risks to public safety.
Plan for wider agitation across Kadapa district
Leaders announced that if corrective action is not taken, further protests will be held at Ishwar gas after two days, followed by demonstrations at HP gas and Subrahmanyeshwara Ammavari gas agencies. They said a petition will be submitted to the Kadapa District Collector, and dharnas will be organised across all gas agencies in the district.
Participation of local women and union members
The dharna saw the participation of Aidwa Proddatur Secretary Venkatasubbamma, along with Sarveswari, Vijaya Kumari, Guramma, Himaja, Padmaja, Auto Union Secretary Shekhar, and members Chanti, Babu, Prasanna, and others. Participants urged authorities to ensure transparency and consumer protection in LPG distribution.
