Mango, paddy farmers reeling after storms, call for state support

Telangana: Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi State President Gavvala Srikanth has demanded immediate compensation for mango farmers whose produce was damaged by recent unseasonal rains and strong winds in the state, blaming government negligence for the crisis.
Mango fields damaged by untimely rains
Srikanth visited several mango fields and paddy storage centers affected by sudden downpours and winds. He noted that the fruits fell prematurely, became soaked, and started rotting, leaving farmers and paddy farmers in severe distress.
Neglect by government and cooperatives
He criticized both Central and state governments for failing to provide basic protective measures like plastic covers or storage support. He also alleged that IKP and cooperative societies neglected procurement duties, leaving farmers stranded.
Demand for procurement and compensation
Srikanth urged the government to purchase wet mangoes from affected farmers and offer compensation. He emphasized using government godowns for storage where miller space is unavailable.
Political blame games hurting farmers
He condemned the ongoing political blame game between state and central governments, stating that such actions are only worsening the plight of farmers for electoral gain.
Several leaders from Dalit Bahujan Party, Mahar Kula Sangham, and SC, ST, BC Minority Students Youth Association joined Srikanth during the visit, expressing solidarity with the affected farming communities.
