RCP urges vigil on rising Buggavanka dam levels

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: Rayalaseema Communist Party (RCP) State Secretary Ravi Shankar Reddy on Friday urged district authorities to closely monitor the increasing water levels in the Buggavanka dam due to continuous heavy rainfall over the past week and to ensure preventive measures to protect Kadapa city residents from potential flooding.

Officials urged to monitor water flow

During an inspection of the Buggavanka dam and its surrounding areas, Ravi Shankar Reddy observed the inflow of rainwater from nearby hills. He said the dam capacity stands at 186 feet, while the water level has already reached 182.5 feet, warning that the inflow could rise further in the coming days.

Reminder of past flooding incident

Recalling a past mishap, Reddy said that the inability of previous district officials to effectively manage the dam-half-TMC capacity of water once resulted in flooding parts of Kadapa city. He stressed that timely monitoring and coordination among departments are essential to prevent a repeat of such incidents.

Call for water conservation and agricultural benefits

He further advised officials to examine the condition of surrounding ponds and ensure optimal water utilization. “If we store and regulate the flow in advance, it can enhance groundwater levels and benefit agriculture,” Reddy stated, adding that the authorities should monitor the inflow and outflow periodically to avoid wastage.

RCP team joins inspection

RCP City Executive Committee members Madagalam Prasad, Ramesh, and others accompanied Ravi Shankar Reddy during the inspection, emphasizing the party’s commitment to addressing public and environmental safety concerns in the region
