Dalit organizations condemn attack on CJI Gavai, seek stern action

Amalapuram – Andhra Pradesh: Dalit and public organizations in Amalapuram strongly condemned the attack on Chief Justice of India Balakrishna Gavai by lawyer Rakesh Kishore, describing it as a grave assault on the nation’s democratic values and judicial integrity.
Protest held in Amalapuram
A protest was organized at the Clock Tower Centre in Amalapuram on Wednesday evening under the aegis of Dalit, public, student, women, worker, teacher, and employee unions. The participants expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that the attack had brought shame to the entire nation.

Attack seen as assault on democracy
Leaders of various organizations said the assault on the Chief Justice by a lawyer identified as a Hindu fanatic reflected intolerance against the judiciary’s independence. They questioned whether this act, committed in the name of Sanatan Dharma, was consistent with the principles of justice and democracy.
Call for accountability from central government
Speakers criticized the silence of the Union Home Minister and other leaders over the incident, alleging indifference towards an attack on the head of the judiciary. They questioned whether a Dalit Chief Justice was being subjected to discrimination and demanded that the central government clarify its stance.
Demand for strong action
The protesters urged the Supreme Court to take serious note of the incident and ensure strict punishment for the accused. They appealed to the Prime Minister, President, and Chief Ministers to condemn the attack publicly and reaffirm their commitment to upholding the Constitution and protecting democracy.
The dharna was attended by CPM District Convener Kaarem Venkateswara Rao, PDSU State Vice President Revu Tirupati Rao, Human Rights Forum State Secretary Edida Rajesh, and several leaders of Dalit public organizations.
