Farmers seek drought status for Emmiganur after crop losses

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Emmiganur – Andhra Pradesh: The All India Farmers’ and Labourers’ Association submitted a petition to Deputy Tahsildar Veerendra Goud at the MRO office, urging the state government to declare Emmiganur mandal as drought-hit following severe crop damage caused by continuous heavy rains.

Heavy rains devastate major crops

District Secretary M Satyanna and Member S Babu said all types of crops in Emmiganur villages — including groundnut, onion, castor, sunflower, chili, and maize — were submerged, leading to massive losses. Farmers reportedly invested Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per acre, but their crops were completely destroyed.

Call for government compensation

The association demanded that Emmiganur be immediately declared a drought-hit zone and that affected farmers be compensated with Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per acre. The leaders warned that the financial distress could worsen, driving more farmers toward debt and despair.

Collective appeal from farmers

Members Balamuni, Ghaus, Chandra Joseph, and others joined the delegation, appealing to the government to act swiftly and provide relief to safeguard the livelihoods of farmers in Emmiganur.
