Ashoka Vijaya Dashami marked with Dhamma Deeksha in Chittoor

Chittoor – Andhra Pradesh: Ashoka Vijaya Dashami, the day Emperor Ashoka embraced Buddhism, was observed on Thursday at Satravada Golden Buddha Vihar in Nagari mandal of Chittoor district with tributes and Dhamma salutation rituals.
Historical significance
The day also marks 14 October 1956, when Dr. B R Ambedkar embraced Buddhism along with 10 lakh followers. Since then, Ambedkarites observe it every year as Dhamma Deeksha Divas.
Local celebrations
Buddha Vihar leaders and youth offered Buddha salutations at the Vihar to commemorate the occasion. Retired MEO Jaya Rao attended as the chief guest.
Young leaders including Sandeep, Umapathy, Thangaraju, Netaji, Gana Karas, Ail, Tamil Arasan, Mahesh, Chinna Raja, Kishore, Puvva Rasan, along with women, children, and community members, took part in large numbers.
