Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: Rayalaseema Communist Party (RCP) State General Secretary Ravi Shankar Reddy alleged serious irregularities in the Icon Villas housing project near Erramukkapalli Railway Bridge, Viswanathapuram. He demanded that the District Collector intervene, form a special committee, and take strict action against the contractor, including blacklisting and criminal proceedings.
Facilities promised, but not delivered
During his visit to the site on Wednesday, Ravi Shankar Reddy said the contractor failed to provide promised amenities such as a park, community hall, club, swimming pool, gym, and wide roads. “All the facilities mentioned in the brochure should be provided. The oppression of residents by the contractor will not be tolerated,” he asserted.
Allegations of harassment and corruption
The RCP leader alleged that homeowners who demanded facilities were attacked and abused by the contractor. He further claimed that crores worth of corruption had taken place, with canal lands and even temple lands included in the villa layouts.
Unlawful maintenance and extra charges
Ravi Shankar Reddy questioned why the contractor, after handing over the villas, continued to impose maintenance charges of Rs 1,500 per family. He also alleged that electricity bills used during construction were being unfairly charged to the residents.
Demand for government action
The RCP demanded the District Collector safeguard government assets, ensure completion of promised works, and take legal action against the contractor. “If corrective steps are not taken, we will intensify the movement until justice is achieved,” said Ravi Shankar Reddy.
City executive members Madagalam Prasad, Vijay Kumar, Ravi, Prathap Reddy, Munireddy, Bali Reddy, Ganganna, Thimmaiah, and others accompanied the State Secretary during the visit.
