Yemmiganur – Kurnool District: Farmers in Emmiganur constituency have raised concerns over an alleged artificial shortage of urea, accusing fertilizer shop owners of hoarding stocks in godowns and selling at inflated prices. They urged agriculture officials to step up inspections and take strict action.
Petition submitted to Agriculture Officer
On Thursday, AIKMS District General Secretary M Satyanna, along with other leaders, submitted a petition to Jagadish, Agriculture Department Officer in Yemmiganur town. The petition alleged that the malpractice is severely affecting farmers during the crucial cultivation season.
Shops under scrutiny
According to Satyanna, while inspections are being carried out on fertilizer shops, many owners have shifted urea stocks to separate godowns, bypassing checks. “This practice is leaving farmers without timely supply and forcing some to buy at higher prices,” he said.
Call for strong measures
The farmer leaders demanded that agriculture officials inspect godowns, seize illegally stored fertilizer, and cancel the licenses of shops found guilty of hoarding or black marketing.
The protest saw participation from IFTU leaders Balaraju and Babu, as well as Mala Mahanadu state leader M Narasanna, who expressed solidarity with the farmers’ demand for fair access to fertilizers.
