Telangana: Alleging misuse of public space and negligence by local authorities, Mala Mahanadu leaders on Thursday demanded the immediate removal of a buddy shops located next to the Bhadrachalam B Ed college, warning of public protests if action is not taken.
Call for immediate action from authorities
Speaking at the Mala Mahanadu Town Committee meeting held in Bhupathi Rao Colony, Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, District President Dasari Shekhar raised strong objections to the continued operation of buddy shops adjacent to the B Ed college. He alleged that despite repeated complaints by local residents, officials have failed to act.
“The shops have become a continual nuisance for female students, leading to inappropriate comments, discomfort and obstructing free movement,” he said.
Accusations of encroachment and misuse
Shekhar further alleged that certain government employees are encroaching on public spaces and subletting them for commercial use. “This is a clear case of neglect. Public areas are being turned into unauthorized business spots for personal gain,” he added.
Warning of dharna if shops are not removed
Warning that the issue could lead to public unrest, Shekhar informed that if the shops are not cleared immediately, Mala Mahanadu members will resort to a dharna. “The public is growing increasingly frustrated. If this is not addressed, officials will have to face the consequences of public anger,” he cautioned.
Community members stand in support
The meeting witnessed participation from several local members and supporters of Mala Mahanadu, including Devaraju, Srinu, Ramesh, Suresh Kumar, Ramanayya, Rambabu, Arjun, and Dasu. The committee collectively voiced their support for the removal of unauthorized shops and reaffirmed their commitment to taking the issue forward through protest if necessary.
