Syndicate in Kadapa RIMS canteen complex hurting poor patients, say RCP activists

Andhra Pradesh: Alleging monopolistic practices in the RIMS business complex, Rayalaseema Communist Party City Executive Member Madagalam Prasad on Saturday accused canteen owners of forming a syndicate that is exploiting patients and their families through inflated prices and exclusive control.
Allegations of monopoly in RIMS business complex
During an inspection of the business complex opposite the In-Patient (IP) block at RIMS, Kadapa, Madagalam Prasad said most of the rooms—meant to support patient needs—are being controlled by just a handful of individuals. “They have turned the area into their own mini-state,” he said, claiming that five or six rooms are being run by the same people.
Syndicate controls all key services
According to Prasad, the traders in the complex have divided services among themselves—each monopolizing a specific type of product or service. Patients and their families have no choice but to buy from these select vendors at prices fixed by the syndicate, with no room for competition.
Call for administrative action
Prasad urged RIMS authorities to intervene and dismantle the syndicate. He emphasized that only one room per eligible trader should be allotted and that fair access must be given to others interested in operating businesses. “This monopoly is unethical and directly affects the poor families depending on RIMS for treatment,” he said.
Support for transparency and fair allotment
He appealed for a transparent reallocation of rooms in the business complex, ensuring that the services truly serve the needs of patients, rather than profiteering vendors. Local members Vijay and Lokesh joined Prasad in inspecting the premises and speaking with affected patients.
