By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Kerala – Net News: In a significant move to bolster employee welfare, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala has announced a premium-free insurance scheme for Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees. The scheme offers a coverage of Rs 1 crore in the event of accidental death, applicable both on and off duty. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce amidst challenging economic conditions.

Comprehensive coverage for KSRTC employees

The newly introduced insurance scheme encompasses all categories of KSRTC employees, including drivers, conductors, ministerial and line officers, and mechanical staff. In the unfortunate event of accidental death, the employee’s family will receive Rs1 crore. For serious injuries sustained in accidents, the compensation is set at Rs 80 lakh. Additionally, the scheme provides Rs 10 lakh each for the education of the employee’s children and for the education of a girl child. Notably, employees are not required to pay any premium for this insurance coverage.

Additional medical and emergency benefits

Beyond financial compensation, the scheme offers extensive medical benefits. These include coverage for plastic surgery, treatment for burns, and access to air ambulance services in emergencies. Such provisions aim to ensure comprehensive support for employees facing medical crises.

Implementation timeline and collaborations

The insurance scheme is slated for implementation starting June 4. It will be executed in collaboration with the State Bank of India (SBI), ensuring robust financial management and support. Furthermore, employees have the option to include up to four family members—either a spouse and two children or parents—under the coverage.

A proactive welfare measure amid fiscal challenges

Despite facing fiscal constraints, the LDF government continues to prioritize social welfare initiatives. This insurance scheme for KSRTC employees is part of a broader strategy to support public sector workers and their families. The government’s commitment to such welfare measures reflects its dedication to the well-being of its employees and the public at large.
