Bihar (Net News): The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) arrested Sanjeev Mukhiya, the prime accused in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak, late Thursday night, in Patna, ending an 11-month manhunt, Bihar EOU ADG Nayyar Hussain Khan confirmed.
Midnight operation success
According to The Indian Express, Mukhiya was apprehended in a midnight raid at an apartment in Saguna More, Danapur, following intelligence inputs. The arrest came after Bihar Police announced a Rs 3 lakh reward on April 9 for information leading to his capture, as reported by The Hindu.
CBI’s ongoing probe
The NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case, initially uncovered by Patna Police on May 5, 2024, was handed over to the CBI in June. The Hindustan Times notes that the CBI filed its first chargesheet in October 2024 against 13 accused in a special Patna court, with Mukhiya now under interrogation by both EOU and CBI teams.
Wider implications
Mukhiya, labeled the “kingpin” of an interstate solver gang by the EOU, faces charges in multiple exam fraud cases, including the Bihar Teacher Recruitment Exam, as per The Times of India. His arrest marks a significant step in tackling exam malpractices, with authorities anticipating further revelations about his network.
