Kurnool – Andhra Pradesh: Welcoming the Supreme Court’s interim orders on the Waqf Board Amendment Act, 2025, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Muslim rights. Former MLA MA Hafeez Khan said the verdict signals judicial support for constitutional values and minority concerns.
Supreme Court questions validity of Waqf Board amendments
The Supreme Court, responding to a petition filed by YSRCP, raised constitutional concerns about the inclusion of non-Muslims in Waqf Boards, suggesting that such provisions may infringe on fundamental rights.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta requested a week’s time to respond, while the Court issued interim order, including:
No de-notification of Waqf properties
Status quo on Waqf assets and appointments
Next hearing scheduled for May 5, 2025
Khan termed this a “major relief” and said the Court’s concerns reflected YSRCP’s stance from the beginning.
YSRCP reaffirms support for Muslim rights
Addressing media in Kurnool on Thursday, Hafeez Khan emphasized YSRCP’s unwavering commitment to fighting for the repeal of the controversial Act. “This is a matter of justice, and we believe the final verdict will uphold the rights of Muslims,” he said.
He praised Chief Justice of India for acknowledging the core issues raised by the party, reinforcing faith in the judiciary’s impartiality.
TDP and BJP alliance draws sharp criticism
Khan launched a scathing attack on TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu** and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, accusing them of siding with BJP’s anti-minority agenda. He described their actions as a betrayal of minority communities and demanded that Naidu exit the NDA to reclaim credibility among Muslims.
“The Muslim community is watching every political move,” he warned, adding that any further silence on the issue would deepen the trust deficit.
YSRCP vows to continue legal and political fight
Khan said that the party would pursue every legal and democratic route to ensure justice. “The Supreme Court’s intervention gives us hope. We stand firm with the Muslim community. Justice will prevail,” he affirmed.
