Complaint lodged in Rajahmundry
On Wednesday, Rashtriya Praja Congress (RPC) Founding President Meda Srinivas led a group of party members and supporters to file a complaint against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) at the 3rd Town Police Station in Rajahmundry. The complaint alleges that RGV’s actions and statements are stoking religious terrorism and social discord.
Allegations of religious provocation
The RPC accuses RGV of hurting Indian sentiments by sarcastically commenting on revered Hindu texts, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as deities like Lord Shiva, Sri Venkateswara Swamy, and Goddess Saraswati. The complaint claims these remarks, made through various media platforms alongside anchor Swapna, are part of a conspiracy to provoke regional tensions between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Claims of social and security threats
The complaint further alleges that RGV’s statements undermine the morale of Indian soldiers and foster communal clashes. It warns that his YouTube videos could serve as material for terrorist organizations, citing a rise in religious conflicts and youth drug addiction as potential consequences of his influence.
Legal action demanded
RPC president Meda Srinivas urged the government to act swiftly, invoking IPC sections 153-A (promoting enmity), 153-B (imputations prejudicial to national integration), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 150-B, and Section 67 of the IT Act 2000. He emphasized the need to preserve peace, protect social security, and uphold the sanctity of Hindu beliefs.
Party members rally in support
The event saw participation from numerous RPC secularists and well-wishers, including DV Ramanamurthy, Pedyala Kamaraju, Kasa Raju, Simma Durga Rao, and others, who gathered at the party’s Aryapuram headquarters before submitting the complaint to the station house officer.
