By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Kurnool – Andhra Pradesh: AIKMS District General Secretary M Satyanna has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to take immediate steps to curb migration from the drought-affected western part of Kurnool district by providing employment opportunities and completing pending water projects. Addressing a protest organized by the All India Kisan Mazdoor Sangh (AIKMS) at Somappa Circle in Yemmiganur town on Tuesday, Satyanna highlighted the severe hardships faced by farmers due to drought and the urgent need for government intervention.

Call for completion of water projects

Satyanna stressed that the Rajoli Banda Diversion Scheme (RDS) right canal, Gundrevula project, and Vedavati project must be completed on a war footing, with adequate funds allocated to ensure irrigation facilities for farmers. He also demanded immediate repairs to the Pulikanuma and Guru Raghavendra projects to improve water availability in the region.

Need for government factories and employment opportunities

To prevent large-scale migration of farmers seeking daily wage work, AIKMS called for the establishment of government-run factories in the region. The organization urged the state government to prioritize industrial development in Kurnool’s western belt, which remains one of the most backward areas in Rayalaseema.

Legislators must address regional concerns

Satyanna appealed to all Kurnool district legislators to raise concerns about the western region during the upcoming legislative assembly session. AIKMS demanded the allocation of special funds for drought-affected areas, the completion of pending irrigation projects, and the immediate revival of Adoni Medical College to improve healthcare access.

The protest was attended by AIKMS district leaders Hanumanthappa, Nagendra, Pedda Reddy, Narasimhulu, Urukundu, Raghavendra, Munayya, Anjaneya, Marri Swamy, along with IFTU leaders S Balaraju, Babu, Nagaraju Sanjana Yellappa, and PYL leaders Muneppa, Ashok, Prabhudas, Raju, Ramesh, and Ramanna.
