Discontent erupts in Telangana over zero allocations in Union Budget

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Telangana: Outrage swept across Telangana on Monday as protests erupted in response to the Union Budget 2025-26, which delivered zero allocations for the state. Under the leadership of TPCC President, a series of dharnas unfolded statewide, with protesters condemning the central government’s neglect and questioning the effectiveness of the state BJP leadership.

Statewide protests express frustration

From Hyderabad to Warangal, the streets of Telangana resonated with chants of disappointment and anger. Protesters, including members of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) and concerned citizens, demanded answers from the central government over its decision to ignore the state’s developmental needs in the budget. Placards bearing slogans like “Justice for Telangana” and “Stop Discrimination” reflected the collective resentment.

BJP leaders under fire

Protesters didn’t just target the central government but also turned their ire towards the state BJP leadership. Despite holding eight MP seats and two ministerial positions, the state’s BJP leaders were criticized for failing to secure any budgetary allocations for Telangana. TPCC President accused them of lacking the political will and influence to bring central resources to the state.

A demand for accountability

Speakers at the dharnas emphasized the need for greater accountability from both the central and state governments. They argued that Telangana’s infrastructure and social programs are at risk without adequate funding. Calls were made for the BJP MPs and ministers from Telangana to resign if they couldn’t advocate for the state’s needs.

Future course of action

The TPCC has vowed to intensify protests if the central government does not reconsider its stance. Plans for mass rallies and public meetings across Telangana are already underway, signaling a sustained movement against what is seen as a blatant disregard for the state’s welfare.
