Ambedkarites demand removal of wine shops near Ambedkar statue

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu:Bureau Chief

Nagari – Andhra Pradesh: All India Ambedkar Yuvajana Sangham and Dalit People’s Front have strongly opposed the establishment of two new wine shops near the Ambedkar statue in Nagari, Chittoor District. Speaking at a press meet on Friday, Dalit People’s Front State President Gajendran revealed that a petition was submitted to the Excise CI on November 26, requesting the removal of these shops. “It is disheartening that no action has been taken,” he said.

The groups argue that placing wine shops beside Ambedkar’s statue is disrespectful and diminishes the significance of the site, which serves as a symbol of equality and justice.

Warning of mass protests

Gajendran warned that if excise officials continue to ignore their demands, large-scale protests would be organized in the coming days. “This negligence will not be tolerated,” he asserted.

He said that the presence of wine shops undermines the cultural and historical importance of the statue, which is a place of reverence for Dalit communities. The proximity of such establishments may lead to increased public disturbances, disrespectful behavior, and moral degradation in the area. The move has already sparked outrage, indicating the potential for social unrest if the shops are not relocated.

Demand for justice in Ambedkar Statue vandalism case

The groups condemned the vandalism of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue in Patapalem village of SR Puram Mandal. They demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and urged authorities to ensure justice by registering a case under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

Condemnation of attack on Dalit Professor

The organizations also criticized the alleged attack on a Dalit professor at SV University by RSS leaders. “We strongly demand the arrest of the RSS leaders involved in this act of caste-based violence,” Gajendran added.

Mandal President Vijay Kumar, Vice President Umapati, General Secretary Thangaraju, Deputy Secretary Hari, and other members Raja, Sandeep, Subramani, Mahesh, Elil, Tulasiram, and Bhasha were present.

They reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the dignity of Ambedkar’s legacy and vowed to continue their fight until their demands are met.
