By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu:Bureau Chief

Kurnool: In Satanur village of Kosigi mandal, a rupture in the Stage One pipeline supplying water to the Pulikanuma project has resulted in over 50 acres of crops being submerged. Leaders from the CPI (ML) New Democracy Party and the All India Kisan Mazdoor Sangham (AIKMS) inspected the site on Thursday and assessed the damage. Cotton and chilli crops, reportedly ready for harvest, suffered heavy losses, with farmers estimating damages up to Rs 1 lakh per acre for cotton and ₹2 lakh per acre for chilli.

Farmers urge immediate compensation for crop losses

CPI (ML) New Democracy Party District Secretary K Nagaraju urged the state government to swiftly compensate farmers for their submerged crops. Nagaraju emphasized that the flooding, which flowed approximately 15 feet deep in places, has devastated farmers who were preparing to harvest. “The losses are severe, and timely compensation is essential,” he said.

Call for prompt repairs to prevent future breakdowns

Following inspection by Irrigation Department officials, Nagaraju and AIKMS District General Secretary M. Sattnna demanded urgent repairs to the pipeline to prevent similar incidents. They criticized delays and called for repairs to be conducted “on a war footing.”

Local leaders rally for support

Local representatives, including IFTU District Vice President Chennakesavulu and AIKMS leaders Balaraju, Hanumanthu, and Dadapeer, were also present to support affected farmers. They collectively urged the state to act promptly, providing the financial support needed to help farmers recover from this unexpected disaster.
