PM Modi emphasizes vision for developed India by 2047 !!!

New Delhi:- Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 9th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi. The meeting saw the participation of Chief Ministers and Lt. Governors from 20 States and 6 Union Territories. Modi underscored the necessity of cooperation between States and the Centre to achieve the vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047.

India’s economic progress

During the meeting, Modi highlighted India’s significant economic progress over the past decade, noting that the country has risen from the 10th largest economy in 2014 to the 5th largest in 2024. He set an ambitious goal for India to become the 3rd largest economy in the world. He emphasized the importance of strengthening social and economic infrastructure, pointing out India’s shift from an import-driven economy to an export-oriented one, with notable achievements in defense, space, startups, and sports.

Encouraging innovative policies

Modi encouraged States to seize opportunities across various sectors by creating and implementing innovative policies aimed at development at the grassroots level. He highlighted the success of the Aspirational Districts Programme, which has thrived on continuous monitoring and healthy competition among districts to improve their performance in government schemes.

Investment-friendly Charter

The Prime Minister directed NITI Aayog to draft an ‘Investment-friendly Charter’ to foster competition among States for attracting investments. He stressed that law and order, good governance, and robust infrastructure are more critical for attracting investments than merely offering incentives.

Focus on agriculture and poverty eradication

Addressing agriculture, Modi urged States to enhance productivity, diversify crops, and establish market linkages for farmers. He also promoted the adoption of Natural Farming practices to improve soil fertility, reduce costs, and access global markets. Modi reiterated the need to target zero poverty at an individual level, arguing that eradicating poverty from the grassroots would have a transformational effect on the country.

Youth skilling and demographic management

Modi called for a focus on skilling and training youth to meet global demand for skilled human resources. He also recommended that States develop Demographic Management Plans to address future challenges posed by an ageing population.

Enhancing governance

To improve governance, Modi urged States to enhance the capacity of government officials at all levels in collaboration with the Capacity Building Commission. Chief Ministers and Lt. Governors shared their suggestions and best practices in fields such as agriculture, education, skill development, entrepreneurship, drinking water, governance, digitalization, women empowerment, and cyber security. Several States also discussed their efforts to create a State Vision for 2047.

Path forward

Modi directed NITI Aayog to review the suggestions made by States and Union Territories during the meeting. He expressed gratitude to the participants for their contributions and expressed confidence in India’s progress towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 through the power of cooperative federalism.
