Andhra Pradesh:- The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) has called on the government to take swift action against landlord Saapey Satyanarayana, who has been accused of encroaching on a crop canal and depriving poor farmers of essential irrigation water.
CPM District Convener Kaarem Venkateswara Rao voiced these demands, highlighting that Satyanarayana’s actions have blocked irrigation water to about an acre of farmland in the Dr. B R Ambedkar Konaseema District’s Katrenikona Mandal, specifically within the Pallamkarru gram panchayat range. The CPM convener insisted that the revenue officials should ensure that irrigation water reaches the affected lands of the poor farmers.
During an inspection of the crop fields on Friday, CPM District committee members, including G Durgaprasad, mandal leaders Viparthi Mohan Rao, Polamuri Srinivasa Rao, and farmers Vakapalli Venkateswara Rao, Tatipaka Swarup, and Kashi Satyanarayana, examined the situation firsthand.
For three generations, the affected farmers have been cultivating their acre of land using water from the crop canal. However, three years ago, Saapey Satyanarayana purchased the adjacent land and subsequently blocked the canal, cutting off their water supply.
Despite petition to the Tahsildar of the Revenue Department and a police case filed regarding the issue, the farmers have seen no resolution for months. The frustrated farmers have now sought the assistance of the CPM to bring attention to their plight.
Kaarem Venkateswara Rao emphasized that Satyanarayana’s actions against the poor farmers are unjust and unacceptable. The CPM has committed to escalating the matter to the district collector and higher officials to ensure a fair resolution and the restoration of irrigation water to the farmers’ lands.
