UYFI demands rollback of Rs 15,000 Cr true-up charges

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu:Bureau Chief

Vijayawada – Andhra Pradesh: The United Youth Federation of India (UYFI) State Convener, Kasani Ganesh Babu, has strongly criticized the TDP-led Andhra Pradesh government for burdening citizens with Rs 15,000 crore in true-up charges. He urged the government to immediately withdraw these financial burdens imposed in the name of fuel adjustment charges.

Criticism of financial burdens on public

Kasani Ganesh Babu accused the TDP government, led by Chandrababu Naidu, of failing to honour promises made to the public. He highlighted the imposition of excessive charges, including the controversial true-up charges, as a severe financial strain on the people of Andhra Pradesh.

Ganesh Babu recalled Chandrababu Naidu’s sharp criticism of the previous YSR Congress Party government during the 2024 elections, particularly targeting YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He pointed out the irony of Naidu, now in power, imposing similar burdens on the public.

Call for immediate withdrawal of true-up charges

Ganesh Babu, along with UYFI leader Anakapalli Kanakaraju, demanded the immediate rollback of true-up charges and fuel adjustment charges. They emphasized that these financial policies disproportionately impact ordinary citizens and fail to reflect the government’s stated commitment to the welfare of the people.

Memorandum to APERC Regulatory Commission

To press their demands, UYFI leaders submitted a petition to the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) Chairman. They appealed for the commission’s intervention to relieve the financial strain on residents and ensure the government honours its promises of fiscal responsibility and fairness.

Criticism of leadership and policies

Ganesh Babu did not hold back in criticizing Chandrababu Naidu’s administration, stating that imposing charges instead of creating wealth demonstrates a lack of economic vision. Referring to Naidu’s earlier criticisms of opponents, he drew parallels between past and present failures, highlighting the inconsistency in governance.

UYFI leaders called for transparency and a reversal of policies that add to the financial burdens on the people. They urged the government to prioritize the welfare of citizens and act swiftly to alleviate the rising costs imposed through true-up charges.
