MCL Security Inspector Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe for Duty Allotment in Odisha

Jharsuguda (Odisha)-New Delhi : In a significant action against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Security Inspector of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Orient Area, Brajarajnagar, Jharsuguda district, while allegedly accepting a bribe from an employee for duty allocation.

According to official sources, the CBI registered a case on June 11, 2026, following a complaint filed by an employee of MCL. The complainant alleged that the Security Inspector had demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 in exchange for assigning him Sunday duty on a rotational basis.

Taking swift action on the complaint, the CBI laid a carefully planned trap on the same day. During the operation, the accused official was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹5,000 from the complainant.

Investigators immediately apprehended the accused after the transaction was completed and recovered the tainted money as part of the trap proceedings. The operation was conducted in accordance with established anti-corruption procedures under the supervision of CBI officials.

The arrested Security Inspector is expected to be produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings. Officials stated that the investigation is continuing to determine whether similar corrupt practices were carried out in the past and if any other individuals were involved.

The action highlights the CBI’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption in public sector organizations and ensure transparency in administrative functioning. Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against any public servant found abusing official powers for personal gain.

The case has once again brought attention to allegations of irregularities in duty allocation systems, where employees are sometimes forced to pay illegal gratification for favorable assignments. CBI officials have urged citizens and employees to report such incidents promptly so that appropriate legal action can be initiated.
