NHRC Seeks Report on Gujarat Chemical Factory Blast; 16 Workers Injured in Bharuch Incident

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a chemical factory explosion in Gujarat’s Bharuch district that left at least 16 workers injured, raising serious concerns over industrial safety and potential human rights violations. The Commission has sought a detailed report from state authorities within two weeks.

The incident occurred on April 23, 2026, at a chemical manufacturing unit located in the Jhagadia GIDC industrial estate in Bharuch district. The explosion reportedly triggered a fire, injuring at least 16 workers present at the facility.
