Kadapa – Andhra Pradesh: Rayalaseema Communist Party (RCP) State General Secretary Ravi Shankar Reddy has called for the comprehensive development of Putlampalli lake in Kadapa into a tourism and recreation hub that promotes health, happiness, and economic activity for local residents.
Lake development stalled for three years
During a visit to the lake on Wednesday, Ravi Shankar Reddy observed that despite being included under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Mission Amrit Sarovar schemes, the construction of the 1,615 meter road on the 134 acre Putlampalli lake embankment has been progressing slowly for the past three years. He questioned the delay in completing the project and urged authorities to expedite the remaining works.
Potential for tourism and economic growth
Reddy suggested that water from Palakonda could be stored in the Putlampalli tank and extended to fill the nearby Buddaipalli and Nadimpalli tanks. He proposed introducing boating facilities, family restaurants, function halls, and water-based entertainment to attract visitors. According to him, such development would not only generate municipal revenue but also boost local agriculture through improved groundwater levels.
Call for beautification and cultural promotion
Highlighting issues of soil theft and poor maintenance, Reddy said that the lake area should be leveled, cleared of wild vegetation, and beautified with pathways, benches, and lighting. He also proposed installing statues of poets, social reformers, and leaders from Kadapa and Rayalaseema along the embankment to celebrate local heritage.
RCP to present proposal to authorities
Reddy stated that the Rayalaseema Communist Party will soon meet with district officials to present detailed proposals for the lake’s development. RCP City Executive Members Madagalam Prasad, Vijay Kumar, Vinod, Ramesh, Tulasiram, Gangaiah, Seenu, Sravanthi, Amrutha, and others accompanied him during the visit.
