Andhra Pradesh: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has demanded stringent action against those responsible for the suicide of a student at Vidyanidhi College, Amalapuram, holding private educational institutions and the state government’s policies accountable for the tragic incident.
SFI condemns student’s death as ‘deeply saddening’
In a statement issued on Friday, Dr. B R Ambedkar Konaseema District Convener K Shankar and Co-convener K Praneeth Sai described the death as a heartbreaking incident. They stressed the need for urgent government intervention to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Corporate colleges accused of harassment and exploitation
The SFI leaders alleged that corporate-run colleges are relentlessly pressuring students to achieve high marks, ignoring their physical and mental well-being. They accused managements of charging exorbitant fees, exploiting parents, and forcing faculty to push students beyond healthy limits, in violation of educational norms.
Call for accountability and policy review
They criticized the state government for decentralizing the public education sector while allowing the private sector to dominate, arguing that this policy shift has contributed to unsafe learning environments. The leaders urged the government to take responsibility for the student’s death and address systemic issues in private education.
Demands for justice and family support
SFI demanded strict punitive action against those directly responsible, including cancellation of the college’s license. They also called for comprehensive support to be extended to the bereaved family, recognizing the sacrifices and aspirations of parents who invest in their children’s education with the hope of a better future.
