Devagiri – Andhra Pradesh: Devagiri ZP High School turned its assembly ground into a sea of mats on Saturday, 21 June, as teachers and students marked the 11th International Yoga Day with a mass display of asanas and a call for daily practice from Headmistress Narasety Radha.
Heritage and global recognition
Radha reminded pupils that India is “the birthplace of Yoga,” tracing the tradition back to Sage Patanjali. She credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative and the UN’s endorsement for giving June 21 worldwide status as International Yoga Day, now observed for the eleventh year.
‘Yoga Andhra’ mobilizes millions
Across Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu branded this year’s celebrations “Yoga Andhra,” coordinating events that engaged an estimated three lakh students statewide.

Daily discipline for body and mind
Warning that modern lifestyles and diets fuel health problems, Radha urged learners to move beyond symbolic observance: “By doing Yoga asanas every day, we protect our health and grow in education.” She highlighted benefits ranging from sharper memory to greater self-confidence.
Students showcase asanas
Under the guidance of PET Master Rajesh, classes performed a sequence of standing, sitting and supine postures, earning applause from teachers who joined the event.
Faculty echo the message
Teachers Harinath Babu, Narasimha Reddy and Jaya Leela reinforced the theme of balance between academic achievement and wellbeing, encouraging parents to support continued practice at home.
Teachers Siva Prasad, Mercy Vijaya Leela, Krupavathi, Jayamma, Nagesh, Suresh, Sudhakar, Varalakshmi and Kavya joined the programme alongside hundreds of pupils, closing with a collective pledge to “live the spirit of Yoga Day every day.”
