JDF urges political alternative to fulfil Andhra Pradesh’s promises

Guntur: Jai Andhra Democratic Forum (JDF) leaders have called for a united political alternative to fight for the implementation of promises made during Andhra Pradesh’s bifurcation, warning that the state’s future depends on realizing those long-pending assurances.
Round Table Meet highlights unfulfilled bifurcation promises
At a round table meeting held at the Jana Chaitanya Vedika Hall in Guntur on June 3, JDF General Secretary Meda Srinivas stressed that Andhra Pradesh’s future is at stake unless the assurances given during the state’s division are fully implemented. The event, presided over by JDF Secretary Avadhanula Hari, brought together senior political leaders and civil society representatives.
Absence of political will to question the Centre
Meda Srinivas accused the Narendra Modi-led central government of betraying Andhra Pradesh by failing to honour key bifurcation promises, such as the Kakinada Petrochemical Complex. He expressed concern that current state leaders lack the courage to confront the Centre on these issues, stating that “Andhra Pradesh needs a political alternative that prioritizes state interests.”
ONGC HQ must be shifted to Rajahmundry
Citing the 12th Finance Commission’s recommendations, Meda Srinivas demanded that 50% of profits from natural resources in the Godavari districts be allocated to Andhra Pradesh’s development. He criticized the decision to place ONGC’s regional headquarters in Chennai despite the crude oil fields being located in Andhra Pradesh, calling for the HQ to be moved to Rajahmundry to reflect regional priorities.
Cross-party support for state’s rights
The meeting was attended by key figures including former Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader N Tulasi Reddy, former MLC KS Lakshmana Rao, CPI State Assistant Secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao, Andhra Rashtra Praja Samithi President Pellakur Surendra Reddy, and several other public intellectuals, professionals, and activists who expressed solidarity with the JDF’s demands.
Call for coordinated political action
Speakers at the meeting emphasized the need to build a unified political front to hold the central government accountable and to mobilize pressure for the fulfillment of all division-related promises. The JDF declared that it will continue efforts to build public awareness and foster statewide political consensus on these critical issues.
