Chittoor – Andhra Pradesh: Teachers staged a district-wide protest in Chittoor on Monday, urging the state government to immediately announce the 12th Pay Revision Commission (PRC) and address long-pending demands related to pay, allowances, and school restructuring.
Protest held in Chittoor
As part of the state-wide call by the Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation (APTF), a dharna was organized at the Chittoor Old Taluka Office. District APTF President Gopinath led the demonstration and highlighted several unresolved issues impacting teachers and employees across the state.
Call for PRC and 30% IR
General Secretary Mukhtar Ahmed demanded the immediate constitution of the 12th PRC and urged the government to sanction a 30% interim relief until the commission submits its recommendations. He also insisted on the release of pending Dearness Allowances (DAs) and PRC arrears.
Concerns over school restructuring
Protesters criticized the confusion caused by the introduction of nine types of schools as an alternative to Government Order (GO) 117. They urged the government to restore the earlier system comprising:
Primary Schools (Classes 1–5)
Upper Primary Schools (Classes 1–8)
High Schools (Classes 6–10)
They argued that the older structure ensured clarity and smooth academic management.
Memorandum submitted
Following the protest, APTF members submitted a memorandum to the local Tehsildar. Key participants in the dharna included Jagadish, Shivshankar, Madhu, Venu Afzal, Lakshmipathi, Krishnamurthy, Subrahmanyam, Prabhakar, Ibrahim, and Munir Ahmed.
