New Delhi: AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has created history by becoming the first woman to hold the position of Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. In the upcoming session, she will face both a woman Chief Minister and a woman opposition leader, marking a significant moment in the state’s political landscape.

Unanimous election to key post

Atishi was unanimously elected as the Leader of Opposition during the AAP Legislative Party meeting held on Sunday. MLA Sanjeev Jha proposed her name for the position, which was accepted without contest. The meeting was attended by AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and 22 newly elected MLAs.

A commitment to public representation

Expressing gratitude, Atishi thanked Arvind Kejriwal and the Legislative Party for their trust in her leadership. She pledged to be a strong voice for the people, ensuring that the ruling BJP government is held accountable for its election promises.

Political landscape shifts in Delhi

Atishi, who won from the Kalkaji constituency, steps into the role at a crucial time for AAP as it transitions into the opposition. The first session of the Delhi Assembly under the new government is set to begin on Monday, where she is expected to lead the opposition with a focus on public issues and governance accountability.
