Minister Scindia inaugurates CISCO manufacturing facility, boosts India’s 5G vision

Chennai: Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, inaugurated CISCO India’s new manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur on Friday, emphasizing its alignment with Prime Minister Modi’s “Make in India” vision. The event highlights India’s growing role in telecom manufacturing and 5G innovation.

CISCO facility to drive 5G and telecom manufacturing

The newly inaugurated CISCO facility, developed in collaboration with Flex India, will focus on producing advanced telecom and networking equipment essential for 5G technology. This move is expected to reduce import dependence and boost India’s export capacity under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

Nokia Solutions and Networks Campus visit

Scindia also toured Nokia’s Chennai campus, where he witnessed cutting-edge Industry 4.0 technologies such as private wireless, AI, and AR/VR. He praised Nokia’s commitment to advancing high-tech telecom manufacturing in India.

IIT Madras and indigenous 5G Testbed

During his visit to IIT Madras, Scindia was briefed on the indigenous 5G Testbed Project, funded by the Department of Telecommunications. The Minister lauded the initiative, calling it a vital step towards making India self-reliant in telecom and fostering innovation among the country’s youth.

Commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047

Scindia highlighted the government’s support for creating an enabling environment for industry and academic collaboration, while IIT Madras Director Prof. V Kamakoti affirmed the institution’s role in advancing India’s technological future towards Viksit Bharat 2047.

The Chennai visit attested the widespread support given by the Department of Telecommunications to industry and academic institutions alike through a host of benefits under PLI, funding for 5G development etc., DoT is committed to create an enabling environment through progressive policies, transparent regulations, ease of doing business and world-class infrastructure.
