Govindamma case: Leaders demand fair investigation and justice

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu:Bureau Chief

Kallukunta – Andhra Pradesh: Leaders of Praja Sanghams met with Yemmiganur DSP Upendra Babu on Friday, to demand justice for Govindamma, the victim of a brutal assault in Kallukunta village of Kurnool District. They called for a thorough investigation and stronger charges against those responsible for the attack.

Demands for justice and protection

Govindamma, who survived an attempted assault, is to receive tight security as per District SP orders. Bahujan Samaikya Samithi (BSS) State President Amaresh and other leaders have demanded an impartial investigation into the case, urging authorities to explore all possible angles. “The accused must be severely punished,” Amaresh said. He also stressed the need for immediate arrests and strong charges to be filed.

Speaking to War-Times, Amaresh said that all the authorities they had met assured them of conducting a thorough investigation and taking decisive action against the perpetrators. He expressed confidence that justice would be served, emphasizing that the officials were committed to addressing the gravity of the situation and holding those responsible accountable.

Leaders step in to save Govindamma

Amaresh played a pivotal role in saving Govindamma’s life by informing the local authorities when he first learned of the planned attack. “I immediately contacted Peddakaduburu SI and Yemmiganur DSP, and that quick action helped prevent the worst,” Amaresh said.

Allegations and criminal charges

Amaresh revealed that around 100 BC caste members were involved in the attack plot, which included plans to strip and rape Govindamma by tying her to an electric pole. The attackers allegedly doused her in petrol. Despite the severity of the case, “petty sections” have been imposed on those aiding the accused, according to Amaresh. He demanded that SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act sections, such as 3(2)(v), be added against the accused, citing case number 95/2024.

Political involvement and SC Commission appeal

There are allegations that local BC elders, with the support of some mandal-level TDP leaders, orchestrated the attack. “We have approached the National Human Rights Commission and the National SC Commission,” Amaresh said, calling for a CID investigation if necessary. He demanded that these political leaders be included as accused in the case.

Warning of future action

Amaresh warned that if justice is not served, broader protests would follow, involving SC and Bahujan communities. “We will not rest until the culprits are brought to justice,” he asserted. The meeting was attended by victim Govindamma, BSP State Convener Manchala Lakshminarayana, and other community leaders to demand swift action against the accused.
