Anti-SC Classification Committee denounces SC ruling as unconstitutional

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu : Bureau Chief

New Delhi: G Chennaiah, Chairman of the Anti-SC Categorization Committee, has denounced the recent Supreme Court judgment on the classification of Scheduled Castes (SCs) as unconstitutional. Chennaiah alleges that the ruling is part of a broader conspiracy aimed at dividing and weakening these communities to consolidate political power.

Massive protest at Jantar Mantar

On Thursday, a massive dharna (protest) was held at Jantar Mantar, drawing hundreds of participants to express their opposition to the Supreme Court’s classification decision. The protestors, led by Chennaiah, argued that the ruling undermines the constitutional protections enshrined in Article 341 and allows states to disrupt reservation policies, thereby politicizing them and deviating from the spirit of the Constitution.

Core concerns

Chennaiah criticized the Supreme Court’s decision for granting states the power to interfere with SC-ST reservations, accusing it of enabling political manipulation and diminishing the intent of affirmative action. He expressed concern that such classification could lead to further micro-classification, undermining the development efforts for SCs and STs.

Political allegations

Chennaiah alleged that the judgment was influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He vowed to challenge the decision through legal means and public mobilization, working with groups and political parties opposed to the classification.

Leaders Burgula Venkateswarlu, Gopoju Ramesh, Manne Sridhar Rao, Mallu Sivaram, Dr. Mancha Naga Malleshwari, and Nanneti Pushparaj, alongside numerous activists and leaders from the Anti-Apartheid Struggle Committee participated in the dharna.

The protest underscores the growing dissent against the Supreme Court’s ruling and highlights the ongoing struggle for SC-ST rights and constitutional integrity.
