Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: Sanitation workers of Proddatur Municipality staged a half-hour protest at all muster points on Saturday, urging officials to address long-standing issues. The workers warned that they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not resolved promptly.

Call for basic tools

Workers demanded immediate supply of essential tools required for sanitation duties. They also sought raincoats, blouses, masks, uniforms, coconut oil, soaps, and fenugreek oil, stating that these basic items were overdue.

Employment support for families

The protesters appealed for jobs to be provided to the families of workers who died while in service. They also demanded employment for family members once a worker reaches 60 years of age, and job support for workers suffering from illness.

Salary concerns and staffing issues

Sanitation workers urged the municipality to increase salaries for those who served during the Covid period. They also highlighted that the workforce was insufficient and requested an increase in the number of workers to ease the burden.

Demand for ex-gratia

The workers called for an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to families of deceased sanitation workers, stressing the risks involved in their daily duties.
