Municipal workers seek MLA’s intervention for wage revision and welfare

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Proddatur – Andhra Pradesh: Municipal workers affiliated with the AP Municipal Workers Employees Union (CITU) met Poddutur MLA N Varadarali Reddy on Tuesday, appealing for his intervention to resolve their long-pending grievances, including inadequate wages, lack of welfare measures, and pending issues related to deceased and retired workers.

Six years without wage revision

The workers explained that 95 COVID workers have been serving for the past six years, receiving only Rs 400 per day. Despite a sharp rise in living costs, their wages have remained stagnant. As per the relevant government order, they are eligible for Rs 570 per day, but the order has not been implemented.

The workers urged the MLA to take up the issue with the Municipal Commissioner and ensure that their wages are revised in line with current prices. They also requested the timely provision of uniforms, slippers, and coconut oil for all municipal staff.

Appeal for support to deceased and aged workers’ families

The delegation also highlighted the plight of APCAS workers who are unable to work due to age and health conditions. They demanded that one family member of deceased or retired workers be given employment on compassionate grounds.

They further requested an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of workers who died while in service and immediate action on long-pending petitions regarding such cases.

MLA promises action

Responding to their appeal, MLA N Varadarali Reddy assured the workers that he would speak to the Municipal Commissioner and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to do justice to their demands.

Union representatives present

The meeting was attended by Union Presidents Salmon and Nagendra, Secretary Mary Babu, President Raju, Working President Rajkumar, and members David, Praveenu, Narsimlu, Shiva, Prasanna, and Chinna.
