JDRF condemns harassment of journalist over illegal construction report
By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

Vinukonda – Andhra Pradesh: Journalists Democratic Rights Forum (JDRF) General Secretary Meda Srinivas has raised serious concerns over alleged harassment of a Prajakanksha reporter who exposed illegal constructions in Vinukonda, accusing municipal officials and the land mafia of collusion and intimidation.
Allegations of harassment by TPO
Meda Srinivas alleged that an official from the Vinukonda Municipality’s town planning department is harassing the reporter who published news on unauthorized constructions. He accused the official of maintaining close ties with land mafia elements and using the position to retaliate against journalists exposing irregularities.
Journalists facing increasing threats
The JDRF leader noted that threats and intimidation against journalists are becoming more frequent, particularly those who report on corruption. He expressed disappointment over the lack of support from local police and elected representatives, stating that corrupt officials are being protected while journalists are left vulnerable.
Call for government intervention
Srinivas urged the state government to intervene and address the alleged rampant corruption in Vinukonda Municipality. He called for:
Transfers of officials involved in illegal activities to distant locations.
Investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and Vigilance Department.
Asset seizure of officials found possessing illegal wealth.
JDRF assures support to affected journalists
Reaffirming the organization’s commitment to press freedom, Srinivas stated that the JDRF will provide legal support and protection to any journalist facing harassment or threats for their professional work. He encouraged reporters to report such incidents to the forum for immediate assistance.
