New Delhi: The much-anticipated Fit India Carnival commenced at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday, bringing together sports enthusiasts, wellness experts, and celebrities for a three-day fitness extravaganza. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the event, emphasizing the need to make fitness a national movement.
A nationwide fitness revolution
Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the vision behind the initiative, stating, “This is a step towards making sports a culture and promoting fitness as a way of life. We aim to expand the Fit India Carnival to other towns and cities.”

Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, recognized as a Fit India Icon, underscored the importance of a healthy lifestyle. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dr. Mandaviya for their efforts in promoting fitness across the country.
Martial arts, fitness challenges, and health assessments
The opening day featured thrilling demonstrations of Kalaripayattu, Gatka, and Mallakhamb, celebrating India’s martial arts heritage. Attendees participated in various fitness challenges, including rope skipping, arm wrestling, and cricket bowling. Experts from the Sports Authority of India’s National Centre of Sports Sciences and Research (NCSSR) conducted free health assessments, offering consultations on nutrition and mental well-being.
Book launch and fitness discussions
A key highlight of the event was the launch of “Benefits of Cycling,” a book curated by NCSSR to promote cycling for a healthier lifestyle. The minister also engaged in a live Q&A session with fitness icons, reinforcing the significance of physical activity.
Cultural performances and fitness engagements
The evening concluded with ‘Fitness through Dance,’ a high-energy cultural showcase. Fitness icons Ayushmann Khurrana, Sangram Singh, and Mickey Mehta participated in an interactive challenge, inspiring attendees to embrace fitness.
