Amalapuram – Andhra Pradesh: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest in Amalapuram, urging strict action against Nagarjuna Construction Company for halting construction of the Area Hospital, and demanded immediate completion of works to ensure better medical services for the public.

Protest against negligence

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) organized a dharna on Monday in front of the Amalapuram Area Hospital, alleging gross negligence by Nagarjuna Construction Company. The construction of the hospital, which serves as the district headquarters, was left incomplete, causing severe inconvenience to thousands of patients.

Demands for action and accountability

CPM district convener Kaarem Venkateswara Rao called for a thorough investigation into the actions of Nagarjuna Construction Company. “Strict action must be taken against the company for halting the construction mid-way and misusing government funds,” he said.

The party demanded:

Immediate resumption and completion of the hospital’s construction.
Development of the hospital into a multi-specialty facility to reduce dependency on referrals to Kakinada.
Accountability for negligence and wastage of public resources.

Current challenges at the hospital

Only 40 beds are currently available, grossly inadequate for the volume of patients.
Lack of proper infrastructure forces patients to seek treatment in distant locations.

Memorandum to authorities

Following the protest, CPM leaders submitted a grievance to the district collector, urging immediate intervention.

Participants included CPM district committee members N Balaram, G Durga Prasad, T Naga Varalakshmi, TNTUC leader Varavala Sivarao, and others, who emphasized the urgent need for government action.

This protest highlights the growing frustration among citizens over delays in critical public health projects and calls for accountability to ensure timely completion and better healthcare access.
