Suryapeta – Telangana: Dharma Samaj Party began a four-day relay fast in Suryapet district on Thursday, demanding free education, medical care, employment, land, and housing for marginalized communities. Despite repeated pleas to the state government, party leaders expressed frustration over the lack of action, vowing to intensify their protests if demands are not met.

Key demands highlighted

Addressing the gathering, Dharma Samaj Party District Convener Kondameedi Srinivas outlined the core demands:

Free education and medical care: Ensure quality education and healthcare services are accessible to the poor, especially BC, SC, and ST communities.

Employment opportunities: Provide jobs to the unemployed as a priority measure to alleviate poverty.

Land for cultivation: Allot one acre of irrigated land to eligible families to support sustainable livelihoods.

Housing for the poor: Allocate 200-yard plots to eligible families and construct houses for them.

Srinivas emphasized that these basic rights are critical for the upliftment of marginalized communities.

Government indifference sparks protests

Srinivas criticized the state government for ignoring repeated representations made through the District Collector, stating that the protest was a response to the administration’s apathy. “Despite our dharna and written representations, there has been no response from the government. This relay fast is our next step in pressuring the authorities to act,” he said.

Warning of future strikes

The leaders warned that if the government failed to meet their demands, they would resume an indefinite hunger strike in the coming days, escalating their protest.

The relay fast was inaugurated by District Court Lawyer Mattaiah and Pratap Nayak. Participants included District Co-convener Vijayaramaraju, Niranjan Yadav, Saidulu Maharaj, and Munagala Mandal Convener Naresh Maharaj. Ambedkar, along with other mandal leaders, also supported the protest.

The Dharma Samaj Party’s relay fast highlights the growing frustration among marginalized communities over unfulfilled promises of basic rights. The party has vowed to continue its fight until the government takes concrete action to address their demands.
