Workshop highlights justice for bahujans and nomadic communities

Vijayawada – Andhra Pradesh: A workshop on the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities (POA) Act and issues affecting marginalized communities was held on Monday at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, under the auspices of the Andhra Pradesh CID. Speakers called for justice, reforms, and empowerment of Bahujans, nomadic tribes, and minorities.
Addressing plight of nomadic and semi-nomadic communities
Medara Sangham State President and High Court Advocate Kandikattu Narasimha Rao highlighted the struggles faced by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes, as well as marginalized communities, including SCs, STs, BCs, and minorities.
Historic context: He explained the historical relevance of the Criminal Tribes Act of 1871 and its impact on nomadic tribes.
Legislative safeguards: The importance of the SC & ST POA Act in protecting these communities from atrocities was underscored.
Demand for justice and police accountability
Narasimha Rao urged the CID to act decisively against crimes committed against Bahujans and called for the release of innocent individuals languishing in jails.
Police and judicial reforms: He criticized the torture of Bahujans in police stations and central jails and emphasized the need for swift bail for those imprisoned without cause.
Empowering the marginalized: He proposed conducting workshops in every village to raise awareness about legal rights and ensure justice is accessible to the common man.
Call to action for youth
Addressing students and youth, Narasimha Rao invoked the teachings of Dr. B R Ambedkar, urging them to work for the upliftment of the masses. He encouraged college students to adopt Ambedkar’s principles and contribute to building an equitable society. Rao emphasized the need for grassroots movements to make justice a collective responsibility.
Recognition and acknowledgements
The workshop concluded with CID officers honouring Narasimha Rao for his contributions. Rao thanked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan, and CID officials, including Dr. Ravi Shankar and CI Rajesh, for their support in organizing the event.
