Tenali – Andhra Pradesh: The Anti-Caste Discrimination Struggle (KVPS) has criticized the Andhra Pradesh government for its inadequate response to the murder of Madhira Sahana by rowdy sheeter Ragi Naveen. KVPS State General Secretary Andra Malyadri, along with other public association leaders, visited the grieving family, condemning the state’s failure to act against violence targeting women.
Failure of government response
Despite the brutal nature of the crime, where Sahana succumbed to her injuries after days of treatment, neither Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Home Minister Anita, nor Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan have addressed the incident. The lack of official response has been labeled “regrettable” by KVPS and activists, questioning the state’s commitment to protecting women.
Call for Nirbhaya Act implementation
Malyadri called for the immediate enforcement of the Nirbhaya Act, urging swift justice through fast-track courts. KVPS also demanded stricter government action to prevent such crimes and protect the rights of women across the state, as current measures have been deemed ineffective.
Financial aid and compensation demands
In addition to justice, KVPS demanded financial security for Sahana’s family, proposing Rs 50 lakh in compensation, 5 acres of farmland, housing, and employment for one of Sahana’s sisters. Failure to meet these demands would result in protests, according to Malyadri, who urged the government to act before public anger escalates.
Public outrage and activist involvement
The meeting saw participation from various activists, including CPM Tenali Committee Secretary Kollipara Babu Prasad, Rythu Sangham leader Mulaka Siva Sambireddy, KVPS leader P Jonesh, Women’s Sangham leader N Rajyalakshmi, Ambedkarite Yandrapati Ashok and Karumanchi Jacob, all united in calling for urgent government action to protect women and prevent future tragedies.
