NUSRL Wins 14th Padma Vibhushan N. A. Palkhivala Memorial National Moot Court Competition

Ranchi – National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, recently achieved victory at the 14th Padma Vibhushan N. A. Palkhivala Memorial National Moot Court Competition held in Mumbai. This prestigious event was organized by Maharashtra National Law University in collaboration with the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal Bar Association, featuring participation from 76 universities across the country.
The NUSRL team consisted of fourth-year students Shreyanshi Singh and Garima Kiran, who delivered the oral presentations, while Aman Upadhyay participated as a researcher. The team performed exceptionally well, and the final round was judged by distinguished judges. This success has strengthened the university’s identity.
The competition focused on the constitutional validity of Sections 148 and 148A in light of the reassessment process and the amendments brought about by the Finance Act, 2021. The team’s legal arguments and thorough research played a crucial role in their victory.
The University of Calcutta’s law department was awarded the runner-up position, while Law College Dehradun received the second runner-up award. Other notable awards included Best Memorial, which went to Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad; Best Speaker, awarded to Akash Srivastava from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Bangalore; and Best Researcher, awarded to Zeenat Tasneem from the University of Calcutta.
The closing ceremony featured a panel discussion on the changing landscape of legal practice, emphasizing how moot court competitions play a vital role in developing competent lawyers. The panel included legal experts such as K. Gopal, Vice President of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal Bar Association, Samir Jani, Vice President of the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners, and lawyer Nikita Bhade.
This remarkable achievement highlights the hard work and dedication of NUSRL’s students and faculty. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil congratulated the team, stating that their hard work, outstanding presentations, and guidance from Moot Court Coordinator Mrs. Soni Bhola led to this victory. Their success has contributed to creating a supportive environment for academic excellence.
