Karmayogi Jan Seva Programme: Cultivating citizen-centric governance in India

By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu: Assistant Chief Editor

New Delhi: The Department of Legal Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Law and Justice, hosted the Rashtriya Karmayogi Jan Seva Programme in New Delhi on Saturday, spotlighting a transformative approach to governance that emphasizes accountability, service, and proactive solutions.

Empowering governance through seva-bhav

Held at the Civil Services Officer’s Institute, KG Marg, the programme aimed to inspire Central Government employees to embrace the Karmayogi Way, fostering a citizen-first mindset in governance. Under the guidance of Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, Additional Secretary, and with Illumine Knowledge Resources as the Knowledge Partner, the event integrated training and motivation to enhance accountability and responsiveness.

Interactive learning: Blending tradition and innovation

The programme began with an engaging survey on the Pedgog App, encouraging participants to introspect on their roles and responsibilities. Drawing on lessons from the Ramayana and motivational stories, it contrasted the conventional and Karmayogi approaches to governance, urging employees to shift from task-oriented attitudes to solution-focused mindsets.

Structured modules to drive behavioral change

With four 1.5-hour modules, participants engaged in reflective discussions, teamwork, and collaborative problem-solving. They were reminded of their inner potential and motivated to align their professional goals with national progress, embodying a spirit of service and responsibility.

Building a culture of accountability

Participants highlighted the benefits of adopting the Karmayogi approach, which includes enhanced time management, a service-oriented attitude, and responsiveness to citizen needs. The discussions emphasized behavioral changes as the cornerstone of impactful governance, enabling employees to meet both ministry objectives and public expectations.

A vision for inclusive progress

The event concluded with a unifying message: embracing seva-bhav, purpose, and national pride can align individual contributions with the broader goals of governance. This call for inclusivity and accountability echoes the foundational principles of India’s Constitution, reinforcing the need for a sustainable, people-centered approach to development.

The Rashtriya Karmayogi Jan Seva Programme not only reflects the government’s focus on transformative governance but also serves as a reminder of the role of public servants in fostering inclusive progress, reminiscent of the values upheld by leaders like Ambedkar, who envisioned a Constitution-driven approach to equality and service.
