Annamayya – Andhra Pradesh: On Wednesday, under the leadership of Annamayya District Farmers’ Association District General Secretary Vangamalla Rangareddy, a petition was submitted to the Annamayya District Joint Collector (JC), urging immediate action on key agricultural issues.
Demand for budget allocation and direct farmer support
Vangamalla Rangareddy emphasized that, in accordance with state directives and in solidarity with ongoing statewide protests, the government should immediately sanction the agricultural budget discussed in the assembly meeting. He demanded that Rs 20,000 be deposited in farmers’ accounts in March under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme to provide much-needed financial relief.
Call for support prices and government procurement
Farmers stressed the necessity of ensuring support prices for their crops. They urged the government to either set fair market prices or directly purchase the produce from farmers to prevent financial distress and ensure justice for the agricultural community.
Completion of key irrigation projects
The petition also called for the allocation of sufficient funds to complete the Annamayya project in Annamayya district. Additionally, the Velugulu project was highlighted, with farmers demanding the completion of small and large canals to supply water to ponds and enhance irrigation facilities.
Rayachoti Area Secretary Balakrishna Reddy and District President Harinadha Naidu participated in the meeting, supporting the demands and stressing the need for urgent government intervention to address the concerns of the farming community.
