Cleanup drive in Palakonda hills
As part of the initiative, members of the trekking group visited the Palakonda hill area and removed plastic waste discarded by visitors. They said plastic waste was being thrown indiscriminately in natural areas, posing a serious threat to the environment and wildlife.
The group stressed that plastic waste should be disposed of only in designated garbage bins to prevent environmental damage.

Plastic pollution a growing environmental threat
Speaking on the occasion, the group members described plastic pollution as a serious environmental problem affecting ecosystems and public health. They said plastic waste has spread to almost every corner of the environment, contaminating soil, water sources, and food systems.
They also expressed concern that increasing pollution and environmental degradation could negatively impact agricultural productivity and rainfall patterns.
Call for ban on plastic and use of eco-friendly alternatives
The trekking group called for a complete ban on plastic usage and urged people to adopt environmentally friendly alternatives.
They suggested that the public should use paper bags or cloth bags instead of plastic carry bags. They also recommended using steel plates and glasses instead of disposable plastic items during events and public gatherings.
Public participation essential
Members of the group said they have initiated a “war against plastic” and appealed to the public to voluntarily participate in protecting nature and maintaining cleanliness in tourist and trekking locations.
They emphasised that collective public action is necessary to reduce plastic pollution and safeguard the environment for future generations.
Those who participated in the cleanup programme included Ravi Shankar Reddy, Gafur, Raju, Sikinder, Narasimha Reddy, Srinivasa Reddy, Eswaraiah, Naidu, Anita, Ammulu, Rani, Ramalakshmamma, Vijayamma, Sumathi, and several other volunteers.
