New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the BHARATPOL portal in New Delhi, emphasizing its potential to transform India’s law enforcement landscape by integrating with INTERPOL and expediting international investigations.

BHARATPOL: A leap towards global crime control

The BHARATPOL portal, developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was launched at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on Tuesday. The portal aims to provide a real-time interface for seamless communication among law enforcement agencies across 195 countries.

Key modules for effective policing

Amit Shah outlined the five core modules of BHARATPOL:

Connect: Links Indian agencies to INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB-New Delhi) for swift data exchange.

INTERPOL notices: Enables structured transmission of notices to locate criminals.

References and broadcast: Simplifies assistance requests and ensures immediate sharing of international crime information.

Resources: Supports document management and capacity-building initiatives.

Revolutionizing investigations and extraditions

The Home Minister highlighted BHARATPOL’s role in combating crimes like drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and cybercrime. Coupled with new laws allowing trials in absentia, the system facilitates extradition processes and ensures fugitive criminals face justice.

CBI Officers honoured

Amit Shah presented police medals to 35 CBI officers recognized for distinguished service and excellence in investigation. The event was attended by dignitaries including Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, CBI Director Praveen Sood, and DoPT Secretary Sumit Dasgupta.

Modernizing law enforcement systems

Shah emphasized the portal’s ability to enhance transparency and efficiency. He called for grassroots-level training for effective implementation, ensuring a stronger judicial system and proactive crime prevention strategies.

Strengthening global collaboration

The initiative aims to provide Indian police forces with access to 19 INTERPOL databases, enabling young officers to analyze crime trends and coordinate with international agencies effectively.

A step towards Amrit Kaal vision

Amit Shah linked BHARATPOL’s launch to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Amrit Kaal, a period of transformation aiming for India to become a global leader and the third-largest economy by 2027.

BHARATPOL represents a significant stride in India’s global law enforcement collaboration, with its transformative potential poised to elevate the nation’s investigative capabilities to international standards.
